GOOD TALKS

EPISODE 1

The Artist's Process with Jarrett Key

For our first episode of Good Talks, artist Jarrett Key sat down with our founder, Phillip Collins, to discuss the process of making art. Fresh off their solo show at 1969 Gallery in New York, Jarrett shared insights on following intuition, staying open to research, and exploring new methods while building a body of work.

Jarrett Key (b. 1990) lives and works in Providence, RI, and is a recent MFA graduate from RISD Painting. Named to Forbes' 30 Under 30 for Art and Style in 2020, Key's practice blends sculpture, painting, and performance within a single frame. Drawing on the lost stories and oral histories of their upbringing in rural Alabama, Key's work examines the historical roots of contemporary issues while creating space for beauty, joy, and survival.

"My family, music, art, and the South and inform the things I care about."
