“My narrative portrays moments of everyday life. Those moments can be a feeling or the relationship between a figure and space. My practice is a way to keep those memories alive."
Samara Paiva is an artist from Brazil and was born in Maués – Amazonas. She now lives and works in Manaus. After completing her architecture degree, she taught herself how to draw and paint.
In her painting practice she crosses research of the human figure through an intimate gaze, with her own experience as a Black Woman using the domestic ambient as her main scenario. Explore the materiality of oil paint as one of the pillars in Samara’s work. From thin to thick brushstrokes, she sees in the plasticity of the medium as a way to give life to the paintings and blur the lines between the concrete and the abstract.
