Samara Paiva
“My narrative portrays moments of everyday life. Those moments can be a feeling or the relationship between a figure and space. My practice is a way to keep those memories alive."
Samara Paiva is an artist from Brazil, born in Maués, Amazonas, now living and working in Manaus. After completing her architecture degree, she taught herself to draw and paint.
Samara's practice crosses research of the human figure with an intimate gaze, drawing on her own experience as a Black woman and using domestic settings as her main scenario. Oil paint is central to her work: from thin to thick brushstrokes, she uses the medium's plasticity to give life to her paintings and blur the line between the concrete and the abstract.
