Let Me Climb
“Let Me Climb” is the last piece that the artist made before finally getting his visa to fly back to Japan post the pandemic. The idea came from the Mos Def song “Climb” and features an image of Jesse Owens who he and his grandfather is named after.
The figure is jumping from the darkness of night into the red sun, with the words repeating in a mantra like manner yet with a hint of questioning. The men pointing to him were from the MLK Jr.'s balcony suggesting a further uncertainty, while the butterfly suggests a metamorphosis.
