Sunny
Sunny depicts a black man in a Yale hat. While Yale, and the state of Connecticut in general, is seen by many as a place of upper class whiteness; Julian’s experience of Connecticut has been one of living in a predominantly black city that was very segregated from the stereotypes about the state of Connecticut. This juxtaposition of a black man wearing a hat representing such an area is an interesting one; and it speaks to the erasure of black identity from the story of the state.
