This group portrait depicts an 'average Black American family' from the true and imagined lens of Williams's own household and that of his cousins. Though each character has their own unique style, their resemblance is noticed in the angular eyes and the curve of their cheeks. Steven's cubist approach to figuration abstracts the human form through dynamic shapes and planes to create personalized figures among otherwise flattened environments.
