Not?
“Dismemberment” is another piece that Jesse made for his last solo show in Tokyo, ‘I Am I Be.” The shows theme was about identity and breaking out of the layers of preconceived boxes placed upon an African Americans. The artist loosely enclosed a dismembered Black body mixed subtly with body parts from Picasso’s “Guernica.” This work not only speaks to boxes placed on us by others, but the resulting way we look at ourselves growing up in these enclosed and disadvantaged spaces.
