Like "Coming Tides", "SpiceWork" recalled moments of calmness and pause, but also the fragility of that temporary calmness. Being Black, and being queer or gay, there is an almost general but collective experience of trauma or being traumatized. My intent behind creating these pieces is to allow both myself and the individuals who view the work to recall moments of nostalgia. To connect with the spices involved and recall family moments.
