" Exploring themes of assimilation and translation, satisfaction, as well as the concept of art as an act of play, my work functions as an art object as well as a tool for my own efforts of self-recognition and preservation."

Kyra Husband is an emerging artist whose formative years were shaped by early recognition: a Silver Key in the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards, the Dutchess County Executive's Arts Award for "Student with Exceptional Promise in the Arts," and features at the Howland Cultural Center's Annual African American History Month show.

Kyra draws inspiration from Black contemporary artists like Jordan Casteel, Kerry James Marshall, Carrie Mae Weems, and Lorraine O'Grady, pushing to show Black bodies in everyday moments rather than trauma. She plans to return to her hometown of Beacon, NY to help educate and expose her community to the arts.
