Michael Booker is a mixed media artist originally from Jackson, Mississippi, currently residing in Maryland. He received his BFA in Studio Art (Painting) from Mississippi State University in 2008 and his MFA in Studio Art from the University of Maryland in 2012.

Michael's work creates a parallel utopic, Afrofuturistic community through fineliner pen drawings, weaving natural environments into the figures themselves as a form of escapism. Drawing on the history of hidden signs and symbols in quilts, including those used along the Underground Railroad, his Godspeed series imagines quilts as portals and gateways toward an "Afrotopia," inspired by his grandmother's quilting, the quilts of Gee's Bend, hip hop music, and African wax fabrics.
