Sydney A. Foster
Sydney A. Foster (b. 1994, Montgomery, AL) is a photographer and director based in Atlanta, Georgia. A U.S. Air Force veteran with roots in Tuskegee, Alabama, she began her career at 21 as staff photographer for the Alabama Governor's Office before building an independent practice centered on vibrancy, Southern Black culture, feminism, and the rawness of everyday people, places, and things.
Foster's signature series, Walks in the South, began in 2016 when she was compelled to photograph a woman she met on a lunch break in downtown Montgomery. That encounter grew into an ongoing body of work traveling through Alabama, Georgia, and the surrounding region, documenting untold and overlooked stories across the South. Her photography has been exhibited at the Wiregrass Museum of Art and featured in campaigns for ACLU, Nike, Target, and the Equal Justice Initiative, among others.
