Sydney a foster is an Atlanta-based multidisciplinary artist, director, cultural worker, and healing arts practitioner from Tuskegee, Alabama. Her practice explores Blackness, queerness, spirituality, place, memory, and the ways we preserve ourselves and one another.

Working across photography, film, installation, gathering, and embodied practice, foster approaches art as a tool for remembrance, liberation, and community building. Her ongoing body of work, Pray The Gay Away, documents and reimagines Black queer life in the Deep South through portraiture, oral histories, objects, film, and communal gatherings. As her practice evolves, she is also integrating movement, breathwork, meditation, and healing modalities into her work, exploring creativity as a pathway toward more liberated ways of living.

Her work has been commissioned and recognized by cultural and commercial institutions including Dior, Nike, BET, REVOLT, EBONY Magazine, National Performance Network, The New York Times, The Washington Post, and Der Greif, with her photography selected for presentation during Paris Photo. Across disciplines, foster remains committed to preserving the people, places, and cultural languages of the South while imagining more liberated ways for Black and queer communities to exist, gather, and create.
