“With my work, I want people to understand how everything I do is connected to living as a Black woman, living in the Internet age, living in the wake of slavery and living in culture while simultaneously trying to create it."
Sydney Vernon (b. 1995, Prince George's County, Maryland) lives and works in New York. Sydney is a cross-disciplinary artist, fashion enthusiast, and burgeoning collector of contemporary art. Her work spans drawing, painting, printmaking, video, and performance, often drawing on her family's documented history, Black American culture, and philosophical inquiries into selfhood.
Sydney has shown at Case Gallery, Luce Gallery, and Kapp Kapp, and is a 2022 fellow at the Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop Studio Immersion Project. She holds a BFA from the Cooper Union. Her work "Play Your Own Game" sold at Sotheby's Hong Kong in 2024, and she was one of five Good Black Art alumni spotlighted in a Black History Month partnership with Sotheby's on Instagram.
